Donald Trump is against expanded background checks on the purchase of firearms — but oddly, his campaign website promotes the fact that majorities of Republicans and Democrats want increased scrutiny of private gun sales, The Guardian reports.
The newspaper says it's unclear why the Republican presidential candidate's website would hype the bipartisan support for a policy he and the National Rifle Association (NRA) are against.
A campaign spokeswoman did not immediately respond to requests for comment from The Guardian, which adds the statistics seem "a better fit"' for Hillary Clinton, who supports expanding background checks to cover private gun transactions.
Both the NRA and gun control advocates want both Trump and Clinton to discuss their views on gun control during the second presidential debate on Sunday.
