Just one day after the Republican Party nominated House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy to replace John Boehner as U.S. House speaker, the California senator dropped out of the race, leaving House Republicans, "stunned."

Real estate mogul and GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump took to Twitter noting his disappointment and the "dysfunction" in Washington: And, in response to a Trump supporter, Trump agreed with the suggestion to nominate Ivanka Trump as speaker of the House
Taking a more formal approach, Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan released a statement on Twitter expressing his disappointment with McCarthy's decision: Ryan also took the opportunity to announce his decision not to enter the race: However, political commentator Ann Coulter believes that the GOP finally did something right. Bill Kristol, editor of the Weekly Standard, chimed in: Although McCarthy's announcement may have come as a shock to some, he took to Twitter reminding the public that he has always put the House Republican Conference and the country ahead of himself.
