Chris Christie appeared to be the most uncomfortable man in politics Wednesday night as he fidgeted behind Donald Trump and grimly listened as the GOP presidential front-runner crowed about his primary victories in seven states.

The New Jersey governor — who introduced Trump as "the next president of the United States" at a press conference in Palm Beach — looked so awkward and so pained that bloggers and social media, including Twitter and Facebook, instantly lit up about his cringe-worthy state.

They portray Christie as a flailing political powerbroker who has sold his soul to the devil in endorsing Trump and now works as his sidekick — a transparent move to gain a cabinet seat should the billionaire developer be elected president.

Among the snarky comments on Twitter:

Some commenters believe Christie was in shock after learning that six New Jersey newspapers joined together to publish an editorial Wednesday calling for his resignation as governor, calling him an "embarrassment" and an "utter disgrace."

"We're fed up with Gov. Chris Christie's arrogance. We're fed up with his opportunism. We're fed up with his hypocrisy. We're fed up with his sarcasm. We're fed up with his long neglect of the state to pursue his own selfish agenda," the editorial reads.

"We're disgusted with his endorsement of Donald Trump after he spent months on the campaign trail trashing him, calling him unqualified by temperament and experience to be president."

Washington Post columnist Alexandra Petri said Trump was upstaged by Christie's mournful face.

"Chris Christie spent the entire speech screaming wordlessly … His were the eyes of a man who has gazed into the abyss, and the abyss gazed back, and then he endorsed the abyss," Petri wrote in The Post's Wednesday editions.

"And now it is too late. Nobody is coming for you, Chris Christie. Nobody is coming to save you."
