An Italian woman believed to be the world’s oldest person says the secret to her longevity is her daily consumption of eggs.

Emma Morano, who will turn 117 on November 27, has eaten at least two eggs a day for 90 years.

Morano, of Verbania, Italy, began eating eggs when she was 20 years old, after a doctor diagnosed her with anemia and told her to consume two raw eggs and a cooked one each day.

“And that’s it,” she told Agence-France Press. “And cookies. But I do not eat much because I have no teeth.”

Her doctor, Carlo Bava, acknowledged that Morano does not follow conventional nutritional advice to eat lots of fruits and vegetables.

“Emma has always eaten very few vegetables, very little fruit. When I met her, she ate three eggs per day, two raw in the morning and then an omelette at noon, and chicken at dinner,” he said.
