A public employees union supporting the Democratic Party is the king of outside campaign spending for the November midterm elections. According to the Wall Street Journal, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees is spending $87.5 million on the elections, and has even dipped into an emergency fund to help the Democrats retain control of Congress.

"We're the big dog," AFSCME political director Larry Scanlon told the Journal. "But we don't like to brag."

The AFSCME's political cash is paying for TV ads, phone calls to voters, printed materials and other get-out-the-vote efforts.
