In a floor speech Tuesday, Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., said Democrats made an offer last week to meet Republicans halfway on a budget for the rest of this fiscal year. But House Speaker John Boehner's spokesman Michael Steel released a statement Tuesday saying Schumer’s playing fast and loose with the facts,
The Hill reports.
“Sen. Schumer is not part of the CR [continuing resolution] negotiations, and he is making up fairy tales trying to derail serious discussions on funding the government and cutting spending, because he believes his party would benefit from a government shutdown," Steel said.
"At this point, the House has passed a bill to fund the government through the end of the year while cutting spending.
"The Senate has not, and Sen. Schumer’s inaccurate rants won’t change that."
