Christie: Democrats Are After Your Wallets With Taxes

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie went after Democrats in the statehouse Tuesday with the strong, straight talk that has made him so popular in conservative circles. Democratic lawmakers are pickpockets who are coming after Garden State residents’ wallets, the Cherry Hill Courier-Post quoted him as saying Wednesday.

"When they say they only want to raise taxes on some people, keep your hand on your wallet, because they're coming for you next," the Republican governor said during a town hall meeting in Evesham that attracted about 300 people. "I guarantee I am the only thing left standing between them and your wallet."

Democrats say they want to tax the wealthiest, but their policies also would hit middle-income business owners with the so called millionaires’ tax, the Republican governor said. He also reiterated his thoughts on how little lawmakers get done.

"You know how we all make up to-do lists? If they had a to-do list, the only item would be to do nothing. And they would check it off. Done. Mission accomplished," he said.

Christie warned the audience that Democrats are hell-bent on raising gasoline taxes.

"We already have the highest property taxes in the country," Christie said, adding New Jersey is No. 3 in income taxes, in the top 10 for corporate business taxes, and in the top five for sales tax.

"The only (tax) where we're down near the bottom is the gas tax,” Christie said. “Your friends in the Democratic Party want to take care of that for you because they want you to always feel like you're near the top."
