Some Iowa-arm twisting persuaded New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to promise he’ll visit the site of the first electoral event in the presidential nominating process. However, he apparently has not changed his mind about actually running, Politico reported.

Christie will speak at an education-related event in July at the request of Republican Gov. Terry Branstad. Christie met with GOP donors who had trekked from Iowa to New Jersey and gave them a disappointing message.

“What we heard from him very clearly was the same response he has given publicly: that he made a commitment to New Jersey and continuing to work to solve their problems,” said Iowa businessman Bruce Rastetter. “He understands the country’s problems, but feels very strongly that he has that commitment to New Jersey to continue to serve,” Politico reported.
