Iowa will score a political trifecta of sorts Sunday through Tuesday as Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann, potential candidate Sarah Palin, and the man they would challenge, President Barack Obama, appear at different venues in the Hawkeye State.

Each of their missions is different:
  • On Monday, Minnesota Congresswoman Bachmann will kick off her political campaign for the GOP nomination in her hometown of Waterloo.
  • On Tuesday, Palin will attend the Pella premiere of a movie about the former Alaska governor that many say makes the case for her to follow her 2008 vice-presidential campaign with a 2012 presidential effort.
  • Also on Tuesday, Obama will talk jobs at an Alcoa plant in Bettendorf.

The trio’s forays into Iowa on the heels of GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich’s sojourn during a tea party bus tour there on Saturday. Several other candidates have been visiting the state, and it’s not even close to the Iowa Caucuses in January, let alone the Iowa Straw Poll, set for Aug. 13 in Ames.

Preceding Bachmann’s formal announcement on Monday will be a rally at Waterloo’s Electric Park Ballroom Sunday evening. The founder and head of the House Tea Party Caucus announced during the recent GOP debate that she had filed papers, and she makes it official on Monday.

Palin and husband Todd will travel to the opera house in Pella, also the home of one of the nation's premier tulip festivals, for the premiere of “The Undefeated.” The documentary “chronicles Sarah Palin’s rise from obscurity to national prominence,” its producers say.

As for Obama, “The president will visit Alcoa Davenport Works Factory in Bettendorf, Iowa, to tour the facility and discuss the critical role that the manufacturing sector plays in the American economy,” The Christian Science Monitor quotes White House spokesman Jay Carney as saying.
