It’s not just Republicans who are wondering why President Barack Obama has gone on vacation instead of focusing on the troubled economy and slashing the nation’s 9.1 percent unemployment rate. Rep. James McGovern, D-Mass., voiced the same thoughts Thursday,
The Hill reports.
"I grant you the optics [of Obama’s vacation in Martha’s Vineyard] aren't very good, but we need to get focused back on jobs,"
McGovern told NECN Thursday.
"He needs to lead, not only the Democratic Party, but the country, around a jobs package. . . . Here we are at the end of August, and Congress hasn't done anything about jobs," McGovern said.
Obama should continue to fight for a tax increase, McGovern added.
"Seventy percent of the American people agree that we should put revenues on the table, so the American people are on the president's side," he said. "I want him to be bolder in his leadership."
