Cornyn: GOP to Compete for Senate Control in 2012

While many Republicans have grown excited about the possibility of taking over the House and Senate this year, Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, who is chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), seeks to tone down expectations. He says the GOP has a great chance of taking back the Senate in 2012, The Hill reports.

"I think it (Nov. 2, 2010) is going to be a very good day. I'm not actually predicting we're going to get back to the majority this cycle, but I'm happy to pick up every seat we possibly can," Cornyn said on The Wall Street Journal's "Campaign Journal" online webcast.

In 2012, Democrats will have to defend 23 seats, compared to just 10 for Republicans. "I think that's the year we're most likely to turn the corner," Cornyn said.
