Liberals: Obama Spending Freeze Goes Too Far

While many Republicans say President Barack Obama didn’t go far enough in his proposed spending freeze, some liberal House Democrats already are worried that he went too far, The Hill reports.

They fear the freeze will undermine the government “investments” Obama says are necessary for job creation. "If you want to move forward in research and development, and education reform, and health research and transportation, it's going to cost money. You have to make an investment," Rep. Jim Moran, (pictured) D-Va., tells The Hill. "I don't see how he can freeze domestic spending for five years and still accomplish the initiatives that he talked about."

Rep. Peter Welch, D-Vt., agrees, saying a "one-size-fits-all" freeze will hurt many vital programs.

"A five-year freeze on any budget — whether it's defense or healthcare or education — is very tough," he says. "Those programs will be significantly affected."
