Feb. 13 (Bloomberg) -- Newt Gingrich, former Republican House Speaker, said he may decide this month whether he will set up a committee to explore a challenge against President Barack Obama in 2012.

Gingrich, a Georgian who led the “Republican Revolution” in 1994, when the party gained 52 House seats, was speaking on ABC’s “This Week” program today.

“I’ll probably make a decision by the end of this month about whether or not to set up an exploratory committee,” Gingrich said.

A potential competitor for the Republican presidential nomination, Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, said on the “Fox News Sunday” program today that he’s “very serious” about considering a presidential candidacy and may make his decision by April.
