INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Republican Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana says he's getting a lot of advice in his home state about whether to launch a 2012 presidential campaign.

Pence was at the Indiana Statehouse on Tuesday, speaking to legislators and meeting with GOP Gov. Mitch Daniels a day after supporters announced a petition drive urging him to enter presidential primaries.

Pence has stepped down from his post in the House Republican leadership and is considering a White House run or possible governor campaign.

In remarks to state lawmakers, Pence called Daniels "the best governor in America."

Pence says he's had as many people encourage him to consider coming home to Indiana as urging him to "keep the national campaign."

He says he still intends to make a decision by the end of January.
