Perry Video: Giving Thanks to Military, Veterans

Gov. Rick Perry released a video Wednesday, on the eve of Thanksgiving, praising the sacrifices of military veterans and active duty members who serve in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other areas of interest to the United States.

Perry's video features former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, who describes his harrowing escape from the heavy fire of Taliban and al-Qaida forces in Afghanistan in 2005.

Luttrell is a former petty officer first class, who received the Navy Cross for his actions in 2005 facing Taliban fighters during Operation Red Wing.

Luttrell speaks softly, but sings Perry's praises, whom he says he calls often for "fatherly advice."

“He’s one of the most honorable men I’ve ever met. As far as character and honor and commitment and all those words that most people use as a punch line, he lives that stuff. It’s those characteristics in a man, and especially in him, that I think embody what the president of the United States should be.”

Perry is an Air Force veteran, having flown C-130 tactical airlifts from 1972 to 1977.

The video's background features Perry's voice, thanking those who are serving overseas, and those who've sacrificed family members to various wars.
