Republicans Worry About Image Freshmen Party Sets

It may be natural for Republican freshmen in the House to celebrate their entrance into that august body. But some of their GOP brethren worry that the celebration is going a little too far, Politico reports.

A dozen GOP freshmen are putting on a fancy fundraiser for themselves at a glitzy Washington hotel Tuesday night. That’s “not exactly the populist image [Republican] leaders are anxious to project,” the news service notes. So it’s not surprising that while House Speaker-elect John Boehner’s name appears on the invitation, he’s not going to the  event. Lobbyists, political action committee managers, and others who fork over $2,500 each will get to hear country music star LeAnn Rimes.

“If incoming GOP freshmen were hoping to bring fiscal responsibility and ‘family values’ to Washington, they may have gotten off to an interesting start,” conservative blogger Matt Lewis writes on politicsdaily.com.
