Tea Party to GOP: Hang Tight on Spending

As Democratic and Republican negotiators near a compromise accord to cut spending by about $30 billion for the rest of the fiscal year, tea party activists are urging the Republicans not to give in so easily. Protestors are gathering outside the Capitol Thursday to demand that GOP congressional leaders not give in to Democrats on spending, Politico reports.

Tea-party backed Reps. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, Steve King of Iowa and Mike Pence of India will address the demonstrators.

Tea party leaders say they want to put pressure on Democrats and Republicans alike. “It’s absolutely equally aimed at both parties,” said Tea Party Patriots co-founder Mark Meckler, who helped organize the protest. “It takes responsibility equally for both parties to get this done.”
