Unless U.S. citizens speak up and communicate with their elected representatives in Congress, millions of undocumented aliens –– men, women, and children who entered this country illegally –– are about to be given U.S. citizenship.
President Barack Obama, the Democrat Party machine, unscrupulous big business, and anti-American advocates mean to have their way. Obama-ites are set on opening U.S. borders and globalizing U.S. citizenship through comprehensive immigration reform.
Any entitlement act that exceeds 500 pages in length is likely to be flawed and infeasible.
Consider the current debacle crippling the Patient Protection, Affordable Care Act of 2009 (Obamacare) with 1,194 pages of ill-advised consequences.
To avoid repeating the same mistake twice with immigration legislation, Congress needs to drop comprehensive reform. In contrast to one, unworkable “comprehensive” piece of legislation, the U.S. House and Senate will do better to pursue “incremental” immigration legislation with several “comprehensible,” workable, and cost-effective bills.
In 2007, a bipartisan attempt at comprehensive immigration legislation failed because U.S. citizens chose to maintain the values of the Founding Fathers. Today U.S. citizens want border control and legal immigration in contrast to the waves of illegal aliens flooding U.S. borders since 1987.
Requirements for U.S. citizenship include the ability to read, write, and understand English and to understand American history. The liberal demand that the United States has a “humanitarian” obligation to allow any and all persons to cross U.S. borders at will remains unacceptable to most Americans.
President Obama and his cultists seek easy citizenship for aliens who enter the country undocumented. An expanding illegal-alien population means greater consumption of natural resources and greater production of pollution, which liberal environmentalists appear to ignore.
Currently illegal aliens are burdening our educational systems and public health services, due to their sheer numbers. Illegal aliens cost the criminal justice system untold millions of dollars –– untold because no accurate count is kept of crimes committed by undocumented aliens.
The current undocumented Mexican population sends an estimated $21.2 billion each year to Mexico. Most undocumented aliens are paid in cash and thus pay no federal or state income taxes.
The Obama administration has been making modest efforts to deport illegal aliens, yet many re-enter the United States illegally the same day, especially the drug lords. The Obama administration inadequately enforces employer sanctions and border security measures required by federal law since the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA).
The president’s immigration policy and enforcement of it are muddled. The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) estimates that illegal aliens cost U.S. taxpayers $113 billion per year for services and entitlements.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Agriculture is working with the Mexican government to encourage Mexicans in the United States illegally to obtain food stamps by enrolling in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
An October 2013 report from the Office of the Inspector General in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Resources (HHS) stated that Medicare wrongly paid $29 million to provide prescription drugs to illegal aliens under Medicare Part D.
Medicare and Medicaid bureaucratic incompetency and outright fraud cost U.S. taxpayers a guesstimated $120 billion annually for services to ineligible persons. The nation has yet to learn how well HHS is administering Obamacare.
Laura Ingraham, a Conservative radio talk-show host, observed that Obama, in selling Obamacare, has committed “fraud in the inducement.” This legalese applies when one entity induces another to do something by false or fraudulent representations, which also may describe the Obama administration’s selling of “comprehensive” immigration reform.
The 2013 Senate immigration bill (Border Security, Economic Opportunities, and Immigration Modernization Act) would “modernize” the 1986 IRCA law with expanded legal immigration categories, easier legal-status opportunities for illegal aliens and their families, and access to ever more benefits.
On Nov. 6, 2013, some 120 demonstrators blocked a downtown Chicago street to demand that Congress enact comprehensive immigration reform immediately.
The blockage sponsored by “The Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights” had some demonstrators wearing sweat shirts stamped with “Give Us the Vote Now,” while chanting, “ Citizenship is our right.”
Culture, ethos, heritage, and language are equal parts of the foundation of any nation-state, and fidelity to a nation is the foundation of citizenship. The United States was built by immigrants eager to assimilate. Thomas Paine (1737-1809), American patriot, writer, and revolutionary, observed: “Our citizenship in the United States is our national character … Our great title is American.”
