Contrary to earlier news reports Tuesday, Air Force Two never left the ground in Washington, D.C. and Vice President Mike Pence's flight was never "turned around."
There was, it turns out, no flight at all and no "emergency callback," as Pence staffer Randy Gentry told a crowd gathered in Salem, New Hampshire awaiting the vice president to address roundtable discussion on the opiod crisis.
At mid-afternoon, an administration official told White House reporters the earlier reports of a "turnaround" in the air were false and Pence's plane never left Washington, D.C.
Gentry and other Pence staffers said the vice presidential trip to Salem would be rescheduled soon.
