If the Baldwin Wallace University poll released Tuesday is correct, Libertarian Party member Travis Irvine may be the one who decides if Ohio’s next governor is Republican Mike DeWine or Democrat Richard Cordray.
According to the survey of likely voters in the Buckeye State, Attorney General DeWine leads former Obama Administration official Cordray by 39.4 to 38.8 percent.
The poll also found a 15.8 percent were uncertain who they would vote for, while 4.1 percent favored Irvine and another 1.9 percent favored Green Party nominee Constance Gadell-Newton. The margin of error was 3.8 percent.
Irvine, a comedian and filmmaker from Bexley, Ohio, is campaigning on a platform of legalizing marijuana, lowering taxes and reducing regulations.
“In an extremely close election, any third or fourth party or independent candidacy can make the difference,” Herb Asher, Ohio State University political science professor and author of three books, told Newsmax.
