One day, we may well look back on the first week of August 2020 as the week in which it became painfully apparent something is seriously wrong with presumptive Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden.
Biden, who would be far and away the oldest president in American history at the time of his inauguration, has been facing questions about his fitness to lead since before he even announced his third run for the White House. "You don't have to do this, Joe . . . You really don't," former President Barack Obama told Biden as he considered throwing his hat in the ring, according to Vanity Fair.
More recently, as polling showed significant portions of the electorate — even among Biden’s own supporters — believe the former vice president may have mental issues of one kind or another, his campaign has sought to neutralize the criticism, but in the process merely gave it more life.
Joe Biden’s current speaking and interviews are so incoherent that as the most prolific plagiarizer in political history he should at the very least go back and plagiarize some of his own speeches from the past when he at least spoke sentences that made sense.
His views may have been bone-headed and wrong, but it was understandable.
These days, I’d almost be willing to give a $1,000 prize to the first English teacher who could successfully diagram one of Joe’s sentences.
"I’ve been tested. I’ve been tested constantly," Biden responded to questions about "cognitive decline."
Presumably, Biden meant that he had passed those tests, but this week he decided he hadn’t taken them in the first place.
"No, I haven't taken a test. Why the hell would I take a test?
Come on, man,” Biden snapped at CBS correspondent Errol Barnett. "That's like saying to you, before you got on this program if you had taken a test were you taking cocaine or not. What do you think, huh? Are you a junkie?"
Perhaps he did take a cognitive test, but now he just can’t quite remember doing so. "Test? Test? Yeah maybe, I might remember a test . . . "
Kidding aside, maybe his mind isn’t going that quickly. It could just be that Joe Biden has always been a strange kinda guy.
It might seem strange to bring up "cocaine junkies" in the middle of a rant about how he has not taken — nor does he have any reason to take — a cognitive function test, but Joe has never been a conventional guy.
Inaccurately claiming that he had three degrees and a political science award might seem a strange way to respond to criticism about attending a mediocre law school, but it’s no stranger than appropriating a British politician’s life story, as Biden did during one of his previous bids for the presidency.
Now, he’s ranking racial groups according to how "diverse" they are, which frankly is just the sort of condescending nonsense that Biden has always spouted. The only difference is that this time around, Biden locked up the Democratic nomination before uttering his most disqualifying remarks.
This week will likely be seen as a turning point in the 2020 presidential election campaign.
This is the week when even Trump-hating reporters had to admit that Biden "is incredibly cringe" and "not quite the same guy" he was in 2012.
