Democrats Won't Need the Police at Their Convention

Since Democrats are so eager to defund the police, they should welcome the absence of law enforcement at their party’s upcoming national convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

They can perhaps use some counselors from a Scout camp as replacements or some social workers borrowed from the local universities.

According to recent reports, more than 100 different law enforcement agencies have already pulled out of the event, arguing that the recent ban on the use of tear gas during protests prevents them from doing their job.

"We believe (that) in removing those tools, the use of chemical irritants or pepper spray, from the available resources that the law enforcement officers would have at their disposal if protests become non-peaceful would severely compromise the safety of the public and also the safety of the law enforcement officers who would be assigned to protect the DNC," Fond du Lac, Wisconsin Police Chief William Lamb said in a recent interview.

Vocal anti-police Democrat lawmakers, such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., and a bevy of feckless state and local officials, should be falling all over themselves to praise this development — after all, they’ve been relentlessly pressuring local authorities across America to weaken and defund their police departments.

"Defunding police means defunding police," Rep. Ocasio-Cortez said in late June, arguing that the proposed $1 billion budget cut to New York City’s law enforcement is too modest.

Rep. Omar, meanwhile, has repeatedly called to dismantle the Minneapolis, Minnesota Police Department, egging on local authorities who have already shown a remarkable willingness to capitulate in the face of mob action.

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden shouldn’t get a free pass over his stance on police reform, either.

While the mainstream media have worked overtime to draw a distinction between Biden and the radical left, the former vice president has repeatedly downplayed the ongoing wave of violent Antifa riots, and has even criticized President Trump for his commitment to law and order.

Biden said recently, "We have a President who is determined to sow chaos and division," blaming violent attacks against federal officers and property in Portland on Donald Trump.

To make matters worse, his new policy platform — devised in close collaboration with democratic-socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., — specifically questions the boundaries of police authority, contending that law enforcement powers should be greatly reduced.

"Democrats believe we need to overhaul the criminal justice system from top to bottom," the document states, echoing the rhetoric of far-left anti-police activists.

Biden himself has even directly endorsed one of the main goals of the "defund the police" movement, saying he "absolutely" supports redirecting funding away from police departments.

It’s no wonder that most police groups have already endorsed President Trump’s re-election, including the National Association of Police Organizations, which represents almost a quarter of a million law enforcement officers nationwide.

Democrats have said a great deal about defunding the police in recent months — and now they are reaping what they have sown.

The anti-police Democratic Party should holdits convention without any support from local law enforcement, and face the inevitable consequences of its own radicalism.
