In the wake of Sen. Al Franken's decision to announced his intention to resign from the Senate Thursday, reactions quickly poured in on social media and on television.
Here's a sampling of what's being said about the Minnesota Democrat who has been accused by multiple women of sexual misconduct:
"I think Al Franken believed that he would be able to ride this out until the last 24, 48 hours," said radio host and political commentator Buck Sexton on Fox News. "I think he thought he was good to go. This is absolutely stunning."
Said Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., during an appearance on MSNBC: "The bottom line is partisanship has nothing to do with this. Our party believes that we should have the utmost respect for women, that women should be treated equitably, fairly and justly, and when you don't do that, when you abuse the public trust, when you abuse the trust of the people who you work with or work side by side with, then, you know, you forfeit that trust and the right to be able to hold the position of trust to which you've been elected. And that's what I think happened here."
Regarding the avalanche of sexual misconduct allegations against several men, including Franken and other politicians, in recent months, House Speaker Paul Ryan had this to say:
"We want to identify what reforms are needed to change the way things work. In addition to just better policies to protect women, we need a culture change. We need to recognize this is a pervasive problem that women face not just here in Congress, but every industry. This really is a watershed moment and it needs to lead to lasting and positive change."
