Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., said Friday that she would probably be teaching high school if President Donald Trump hadn’t won in 2016.

“But times of great challenge also can bring out the best in people too. So I think that’s what we’re really seeing right now,” the congresswoman said in an interview on the debut of “Desus & Mero,” Showtime’s first late-night talk show, which premiers Friday night.

When asked if the scrutiny and criticism she’s received since her election has made her regret entering politics, Ocasio-Cortez said, “No. In a weird way, that stuff is validation that you’re doing something real.”

“If you’re just flying under the radar and just trying to get your check, not rock the boat, then what’s the point of being in politics? What is the point of doing things if you’re just trying to maintain the status quo? That doesn’t help people," she added.
