Former Vice President Joe Biden's views on abortion have changed over the years, but he still supports a federal ban against using federal funds to finance abortion services, an NBC News analysis of his positions shows.

Biden's presidential campaign confirmed he supports the Hyde Amendment, a decades-old ban against the use of federal funds for abortion, except in cases of rape, incest, and danger to the mother's life.

This week, Biden said he supports the Roe vs. Wade decision as the "law of the land," telling New Hampshire voters Tuesday a woman has the right to choose, and if the Supreme Court overturns the landmark decision, he will push to keep it legal.

Biden, like many Democrats, has had many changes of heart over the years when it comes to abortion. His press secretary, Jamal Brown, noted his evolution on abortion is well-documented and he now "firmly believes" the Roe decision is the law of the land.

Biden, however, voted against a 1977 compromise allowing Medicaid to fund abortions that allowed the exceptions for victims and endangered mothers, and again in 1981 to remove the exceptions notes NBC News.

A Catholic, Biden also voted several times against allowing federal workers to use health insurance for abortions, except for cases involving the life of the mother, and has said he personally opposes abortion.

Planned Parenthood complained about Biden's continued support of the "unfair Hyde Amendment," with Planned Parenthood Action Fund Executive Director Kelley Robinson saying it makes it so those who have the least have to pay the most to access abortion care."
