Jailed rancher Ammon Bundy has been moved out of solitary confinement in a dark, windowless, six-by-six cell after his plight was featured on
Newsmax TV's "Dennis Michael Lynch: Unfiltered" show.
In a text message to Lynch, Bundy’s wife Lisa wrote: "I just talked to him and he said he wants you to know how grateful he is. Thank You!"
Lynch has closely followed the story of Bundy and other ranchers involved in the armed seizure of an Oregon wildlife refuge on his Newsmax TV show which airs weeknight at 9 p.m. ET.
On Tuesday,
Lisa Bundy told Lynch she feared authorities were attempting to "break" her husband by keeping him in the small cell and restricting his contact with the outside world to 15 minutes a day.
"I think that they are trying to — many have said — break him and the others to the point of where he might not be thinking straight. But it's important to note that he hasn't even been convicted of a crime," Lisa, a mother of six, said.
The takeover of the sprawling Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, which began Jan. 2 was a flare-up in the so-called Sagebrush Rebellion, a decades-old conflict over the U.S. government's control of millions of acres of territory in the west.
Protesters claim they were defending the Constitution.
The siege ended Jan. 26, after officers stopped a car carrying Bundy and others near the refuge.
Protester Robert LaVoy Finicum was killed in the confrontation and Ammon’s brother Ryan suffered a minor gunshot wound.
In her note, Lisa told Lynch that in addition to her husband, others involved in the siege were also taken out of solitary confinement thanks to his efforts.
"Dennis Michael Lynch: Unfiltered" has been covering the plight of those involved in the Oregon siege on a daily basis. Lynch himself has been in constant contact with Ammon'’s lawyer Mike Arnold and officials at the Multnomah County Jail, where the arrested protestors are being held, in a bid to get them into standard jail accommodations.
And it worked.
Now that Bundy has been moved, he has a larger and lighted cell. He will have more contact with his attorney and family members. Lisa told Lynch she is eternally grateful, adding: "You were the key to that. Thank you!"
