Barbara Bush says she and former President George H.W. Bush have become very close to his successor, former President Bill Clinton.

"My husband, Bill Clinton and I have become great friends. And Bill visits us every summer. We don't agree politically, but we don't talk politics," the former first lady said in an interview with C-SPAN that aired Monday.

She likened the relationship between the two men to that of a father and son. "Bill's father wasn't around, and I think he thinks of George a little bit like the father he didn't have," said the Bush family matriarch. "He is very loving to him."

"When they went on that long tsunami trip," she recalled, referring to the time the two former presidents traveled together to Asia in 2005, "George told me Bill insisted he stay in bed and Bill insisted that he was taken care of. That was really nice."

"I love Bill Clinton," Bush added. "Maybe not his politics, but I love Bill Clinton."
