Dr. Ben Carson now leads Donald Trump in the average of national polling — the first time since mid-July Trump has been out of the top spot in the
Real Clear Politics computation.
The averaging of the last four recent polls shows the retired pediatric neurosurgeon with 25.3 percent support, to Trump's 24.3 percent.
According to the Real Clear Politics sites, the last time Trump ran second top anyone in a national averaging was in July, when former Gov. Jeb Bush topped the list.
Will Jordan, elections editor for YouGovUS, tweeted a diagram of the polling changes:
while national correspondent John Roberts of Fox News called the shift "seismic."
Though Carson is
leading in early voting state Iowa, Trump
dominates in other states, including New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada.
