Companies that hire illegal immigrants "should be held accountable," according to former NYPD Commissioner Bernie Kerik on Newsmax TV.
Kerik, author of "From Jailer to Jailed: My Journey from Correction and Police Commissioner to Inmate #84888-054," claimed "in 2009 I had to plead guilty" for hiring an illegal immigrant as a nanny for his kids, adding "and I was sent to federal prison for it."
"I find it ironic that many of the people that criticized me back in 2009, and demanded that I be held accountable, are the same people today that are saying, 'We should just let all the illegals in and don't worry about it," Kerik told "Newsmax Now."
"So you can't have your cake and eat it, too."
Kerik was responding to the new reports of Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids, arguing ICE is just doing its job of enforcing existing U.S. immigration laws that Congress has not moved to change.
"They're violating our laws," Kerik told host John Bachman. "That's an invasion of our country by people who don't have permission to be here."
Kerik also called out those criticizing President Donald Trump's rhetoric and use of the term "invasion" as having been inciting of violence against immigrants, ripping it as "strictly political."
"All these people out there, they're hypocrites," he said.
"The president's term invasion is 100% accurate. You have hundreds of thousands of immigrants pouring into the United States illegally."
