President Donald Trump trails former Vice President Joe Biden and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in a new 2020 national poll released Tuesday by Emerson College.

Trump trails Biden by 8 points and Sanders by 4 points.

Biden continues to lead the Democratic primary with 31%, while Sanders gained four percentage points since Emerson's July national poll.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., is third with 15% and Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., is fourth at 10%. South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg slipped behind entrepreneur Andrew Yang in the survey, who along with Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, received a small boost.

Trump is statistically tied with Warren and Harris in hypothetical general election matchups at 50%.

"Mayor Pete Buttigieg has seen his poll numbers drop all summer and is now at 3%, behind Andrew Yang who is at 4%," Director of Emerson Polling Spencer Kimball said in the release. "Mayor Pete has raised enough money to stay in the race for now but will need a strong debate performance to remain relevant."

The Emerson poll was conducted between Aug. 24-26 and is based on responses from 1,458 registered voters using landlines and an online panel. The margin of error is 2.5 percentage points.
