CNN Poll: Bernie Sanders Leads NH on Eve of Primary

Sen. Bernie Sanders has the support of 29% of likely New Hampshire primary voters, leading former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg by seven percentage points in the final CNN New Hampshire primary tracking poll released on Monday, a day before the vote.

In a distant third place in the survey is former Vice President Joe Biden at 11%, followed by Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren (10%) and Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar (7%).

Other results show:

  • Only about half of likely primary voters say they have definitely made a decision on who to vote for.
  • Among those who say they are committed to their candidate, Sanders leads by a substantial margin at 42%, with only 18% for Buttigieg, 14% for Biden, 10% for Warren, and 6% for Klobuchar.
  • Among those who say they could change their minds, Buttigieg leads at 26%, with 15% for Sanders, 10% for Warren, and 7% each for Biden and Klobuchar.
  • Warren leads the list of voters' second choices, with 20% saying she is their second choice, followed by Sanders at 15% and Buttigieg at 14%.
  • Support for Klobuchar was at 11% the last two days of the survey, compared with 4% the previous two days. Biden's backing also increased, with 14% supporting him the last two days after ony 8% did so the previous two days.
  • Fifty-nine percent say Sanders is the candidate most likely to win New Hampshire's primary, while 10% expect a Buttigieg victory and just 6% each think there will be a Biden or Warren win.

The poll, conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center, took place Feb. 6-9 among a random sample of 365 likely Democratic primary voters, with a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 5.1 percentage points.
