Bill Clinton blames an influx of refugees from the Middle East for causing "terrible stress" in Europe — but his view appears counter to the one held by his wife, Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, the Weekly Standard writes.
In a speech Monday, the former president describes the disaster caused by the massive surge of migrants into Europe, and suggested right-leaning refugees are causing Europeans to fear diversity.
"Things are going better in America, the European Union is under terrible stress because of all those migrants that are coming there and the fights they're having within each other, many of them are moving to the right and becoming much more afraid of diversity even as we embrace it," Bill Clinton said.
The Weekly Standard points out Hillary Clinton last September called for a global effort to do more to aide the refugees.
"The entire world has to come together. It should not be just one or two countries, or not just Europe and the United States," she told MSNBC in early September,
Reuters reported.
"We should do our part, as should the Europeans, but this is a broader global crisis."
