New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on Monday said the city would sue to prevent the federal government from compelling Muslims to register in a database.

"We will sue to block it. We will use all the tools at our disposal to stand up for our people," De Blasio said during a speech denouncing President-elect Donald Trump's policies, the New York Daily News reported.

Trump's team on Sunday reiterated that no such registry is in the planning stages and that there would be no registry based on religion.

De Blasio also promised to push back on deportations, should Trump decide to take that route, and pledged to ensure women's health needs are met if Trump cut funding to Planned Parenthood, the Daily News reported.

"The president-elect talked during the campaign about the movement that he had built," de Blasio said. "Now its our turn to build a movement, a movement of the majority."
