Conservatives and liberals alike approve of the way that the federal government handled the Boston Marathon bombing investigation, according to a new poll.

The Washington Post-ABC News poll found that a majority of Americans, 67 percent, including more than 6 out of every 10 liberals and conservatives, thought that the probe of last year’s terror bombing was carried out correctly.

Residents in the Northeast, who live the closest to the site of the Boston bombing and the 9/11 attacks, were most supportive of the government investigation with 3 out of every 4  people surveyed supporting the way it was handled, with 48 percent approving "strongly."

The investigation led to bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who was killed by federal agents, while his brother Dzhokhar was arrested and faces trial in November.

The hunt for the Tsarnaev brothers resulted in areas of Boston being locked down and door-to-door searches by armed federal and local authorities, says The Washington Post.

Three-quarters of Democrats backed the handling of the investigation, while more than 6 in 10 Republicans and independents gave the government probe the thumbs-up, according to the poll.

But the survey also showed that among "very" conservative respondents, 39 percent disapproved of the handling, although 59 percent approved of the process.

The poll of 1,015 adults was conducted April 9-13 and has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
