Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl said life in the United States since his release from the Taliban was worse than when he was held hostage.
"At least the Taliban were honest enough to say, 'I'm the guy who's gonna cut your throat,'" he told The Sunday Times. "Here, it could be the guy I pass in the corridor who's going to sign the paper that sends me away for life."
Bergdahl pleaded guilty last Monday to desertion and misbehavior before the enemy. He walked off his post in Afghanistan in 2009 and subsequently was held hostage by the local Taliban. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Monday and could face a life sentence in prison.
Bergdahl was freed in a controversial prisoner exchange in 2014 by former President Barack Obama. Bergdahl said he had permanent nerve damage to his feet from standing on bars in a cage suspended from the floor.
