Former Vice President Joe Biden received a minor surge in support following his official campaign announcement, according to the latest Morning Consult poll.
Biden came first among the Democratic candidates, with Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., coming in second, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., in third and South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg in fourth, followed by Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke of Texas. No other candidate garnered 5 percent or more.
- Biden: 36 percent
- Sanders: 22 percent
- Warren: 9 percent
- Buttigieg: 8 percent
- Harris: 7 percent
- O’Rourke: 5 percent
Politico notes that Biden’s support among white voters is at 34 percent, among black voters it’s 44 percent, and among Hispanic voters it’s 30 percent. Biden also leads with elderly voters, while Sanders leads with young voters. Biden has a slight advantage over Sanders among male voters, and holds a strong support from female voters.
Morning Consult found that Sanders enjoyed a similar bump after his official campaign announcement in February, but still trailed Biden by a small amount at that time.
Morning Consult polled 15,475 voters from April 22-28, and has a margin of error of 1 percent.
