The Carnival cruise line has enraged Cuban-Americans by banning them from taking its cruises to the island,
The Miami Herald reports.
But the cruise company says it's just following the law — and it turns out the decision was made hand-in-hand with the Cuban government and has the endorsement of the U.S. Treasury, the newspaper says.
"They're imposing repressive Cuban laws on American citizens," says Maria de los Angeles Torres, a Cuban-American who directs Latin American and Latino studies at the University of Illinois in Chicago. "It’s like they’re bringing Cuban law here," she complains to the Miami paper.

"We have requested a change in policy, which has not yet been granted, but our hope and intention is that we can travel with everybody," Carnival spokesman Roger Frizzell told the Herald.
Long-standing Cuban laws ban Cuban-Americans from travel to Cuba in any kind of sea vessel, reports to
WSVN-TV.
And so far, the U.S. government is going along with it, despite its new diplomatic ties with the island nation.
Carnival's new Cuba service, provided by its Fathom small ship line, begins May 1.
