Chris Christie Labels Trump a Stubborn '72-Year-Old Relative'

President Donald Trump's administrative maneuvers amid criticism of rejecting advice of counsel and advisers are the epitome of not being able to teach an older dog new tricks, according to Chris Christie.

"When people get older, they become more and more convinced of the fact that what they’re doing is the right thing and it becomes harder to convince them otherwise," Christie told ABC's "This Week."

Christie, the former GOP governor of New Jersey, compared President Trump's self-reliance to that of your average "72-year-old relative whose behaviors you're attempting to change," adding you have to consider Trump's personal wealth and fame into the mix, too.

"Add to it, president of the United States and a lot of wealth and a lot of fame, it becomes even harder," Christie told a panel discussion on incoming White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney.

Christie turned down the role, but did give advice to Mulvaney.

"Manage the things you can manage," Christie advised. "And, if Mick does that, I think he'll be successful. If he doesn't, it'll be hard."
