CNN President Jeff Zucker told employees in a memo the news channel is beating Fox News Channel in a key demographic and is as close as it has been to catching the news giant as it has been since 2009.
"CNN beat Fox News in prime time demos in September, October and December. And we are on pace to do so again this month," Zucker says in the memo, which was obtained by
TVNewser.
"That would be 4 out of the last 6 months CNN has beaten Fox in prime time demos, the first time that has happened in more than 14 years," he continued.
CNN has gotten high ratings for its coverage of debates, town halls and primaries during the presidential election season.
"CNN is the only cable news network this cycle to host debates with both sides of the aisle," Zucker says in the memo.
Fox News has outperformed CNN and MSNBC for more than a decade.
