At least seven prosecutors with connections to the Democratic Party or the Biden family have worked at the Delaware U.S. Attorney's office during the years-long Hunter Biden investigation, according to an analysis by the Washington Examiner.
Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who was appointed special counsel in the Hunter Biden probe this month, has been accused of bias from both sides of the political aisle since two IRS whistleblowers testified that his office gave preferential treatment to the Biden family.
While Republicans held up the claims as evidence that the Department of Justice is protecting the Biden family, Hunter Biden's legal team argued that Weiss retracted a plea deal, which contained an immunity clause, in a bid to appease GOP critics.
Both prosecutors who signed the now-scuttled plea deal that was offered to the first son in June appear relatively new to the case, and neither seems to be a Democrat donor, according to the Examiner.
However, Daniel Logan, a prosecutor in Weiss' office until earlier this year, seems to have had a close relationship with the Biden family.
Logan reportedly wrote an email to Hunter Biden in 2010 to thank him for a donation made in the name of Logan's sick child.
"I can't begin to tell you how appreciative both Julia and I are for all of the times you and your family have been there for us," he wrote. "You are a good friend and I greatly appreciate it."
According to the Examiner, Logan worked for then-Delaware U.S. Attorney Beau Biden, Hunter Biden's brother, before his death in 2015.
Logan isn't the only prosecutor in Weiss' office to have a personal connection to the Biden family while investigating Hunter Biden.
Alexander Mackler, a former aide to then-Vice President Joe Biden and Beau Biden and a personal friend of Hunter Biden, also worked in the U.S. Attorney for Delaware's office when the investigation began, the Examiner reported.
Mackler and Logan reportedly now work for the Delaware attorney general's office.
According to an Examiner records review, most of the prosecutors in Weiss' office over the past few years do not appear to have donated to any political candidates, though at least one who worked there at the beginning of the Hunter Biden case donated to President Joe Biden's 2020 campaign.
Another prosecutor, Michael McTaggart, appeared to have donated to Delaware Democrats for years and also seemed to have worked under Beau Biden at the Delaware Department of Justice.
The Examiner found one Republican contribution in 2006, when McTaggart donated to both Beau Biden and his Republican opponent, Ferris Wharton, who lost the race.
According to the IRS whistleblowers, prosecutor Lesley Wolf has played a key role in the Hunter Biden probe for years. She blocked FBI agents from questioning witnesses about Joe Biden, alerted Hunter Biden's lawyers about surprise FBI interviews, and warned his legal team about plans to search a storage unit, the whistleblowers revealed.
Wolf led the plea deal negotiations that would have granted blanket immunity to Hunter Biden, but was pulled back from the case following the testimony from the IRS whistleblowers, according to The New York Times.
