Democrat voters are frustrated and upset because they were "promised the moon" after Democrats won two Senate seats in Georgia and "didn't get most of that," CNN's chief national correspondent, John King, said Wednesday.
King made the comments while discussing a CNN poll that found 75% of Democrats and Democrat-leaning voters want someone other than President Joe Biden to run in 2024.
"The American people, whether you're a Democrat or a Republican, a cranky independent, you're exhausted. You're frustrated," he said. "If you're a Democrat, you were promised the moon after the Democrats won those two Georgia Senate seats; you were promised sweeping legislation on climate, sweeping legislation on child care, sweeping legislation on just about everything under the democratic umbrella. You didn't get most of that, did you? So you're frustrated."
"You have your normal frustrations that all Americans have, and then you have your partisan frustrations because Democrats thought with all Democratic government they would get so much.
"Democrats clearly overpromised, so they are frustrated and who do you take that out on? The guy in charge. That's called human nature. We'll see where we are after the midterms."
The poll, conducted July 22-24, found that 24% of Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters said they want someone else because they don't think Biden can win in 2024, while 32% said they felt that way because they don't want Biden to be reelected. Only 25% said they prefer Biden as the nominee.
