California Democratic Rep. Brad Sherman will reintroduce the impeachment articles that he filed last year against President Donald Trump now that his party is set to take control of the House.
A spokesperson for Sherman, Shane Seaver, told Fox News that the congressman “will be introducing the same articles he introduced last year once the House is in session this afternoon.”
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders dismissed the measure when it was first filed as “utterly and completely ridiculous and a political game at its worst.”
Sherman told the Los Angeles Times on Thursday that there “is no reason it [the measure] shouldn’t be before the Congress.”
“Every day, Donald Trump shows that leaving the White House would be good for our country,” he added.
“Every member of the House will have to address [the issue] whether there are formal articles of impeachment pending,” Sherman said.
Incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has said that she will not lead her party in seeking impeachment while special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation is ongoing.
“We have to wait and see what happens with the Mueller report,” Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi told NBC News’ “Today” show on Thursday. “We shouldn’t be impeaching for a political reason, and we shouldn’t avoid impeachment for a political reason. We have to see.”
