Actor Robert De Niro blasted President Donald Trump as worse than he ever could have imagined during an appearance on CNN where he also had some choice words for his Fox News critics.
"It has to happen," De Niro told CNN's Brian Stelter on "Reliable Sources” of the impeachment proceedings announced last week against President Donald Trump.
DeNiro also called the current political situation a crisis, "and too many people are too gentle and genteel about it. And we're in a crisis situation, period.”
DeNiro also said he didn’t think Trump was “capable of resigning,
“He will say it's rigged or this or that. The day after he was elected, I said, well, give him a chance. You never know. You will see. But he is the — he's worse than I ever could have imagined."
He also said he thinks Fox News is responsible for building up Trump.
"Some of these other pundits on Fox ... I can't believe that they would actually buy into this craziness. This guy is — should not be president, period," De Niro said. "And this guy just keeps going on and on and on without being stopped."
When Stelter asked whether De Niro thought Trump was putting on an act for people, De Niro responded: “As I think some of these other pundits on Fox are too, because I can’t believe that they would actually buy into this craziness.”
Stelter at one point noted the criticism DeNiro got from people at Fox News, to which DeNiro responded: “F-- ’em. F-- ’em.”
De Niro also lashed out at Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy, calling Ruddy's defense of the president in an interview with Stelter prior to De Niro's "disgraceful."
