Poll: Trump's Approval Up to 40% on Hurricane Relief Efforts

President Donald Trump's approval rating has risen to 40 percent, as respondents to a new CNN poll released Thursday gave his administration high marks for its response to Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

Sixty-four percent of the 1,053 adult respondents said they approved of how the White House responded to hurricanes that devastated portions of Texas, Florida and the Caribbean.

The CNN poll was among several that gave President Trump high marks for his hurricane relief efforts, including a deal with Democrats earlier this month to raise the debt ceiling and to provide $15.25 billion in aid to Harvey victims.

The NBC News/The Wall Street Journal poll put Trump's approval rating at 3 points higher, to 43 percent, as respondent praised the bipartisan deal, and a new Zogby Analytics poll put Trump's support higher, also at 43 percent.

  • Disapprove: 59 percent.
  • Approve: 33 percent.

Do you approve of President Trump's handling of North Korea?

  • Disapprove: 50 percent.
  • Approve: 41 percent.

What kind of threat do you consider North Korea to the U.S.?

  • Immediate threat: 50 percent.
  • Long-term threat: 37 percent.
  • No threat at all: 9 percent.
  • No opinion: 4 percent.

Can the North Korean crisis be resolved by sanctions and diplomacy alone?

  • No: 49 percent.
  • Yes: 43 percent.

Do you favor military action against North Korea if sanctions and diplomacy fail?

  • Yes: 58 percent.
  • No: 35 percent.

Should the U.S. use military action against North Korea unilaterally or with other nations?

  • Other nations: 63 percent.
  • Unilaterally: 29 percent.
  • Don't know or refused: 8 percent.

The CNN Poll was conducted by SSRS between Sunday and Wednesday and has a margin of error of 3.7 percent.
