ADL Slams Trump For 'Racist Tweets,' Using Jews as Shield

The Anti-Defamation League issued a press release on Monday condemning President Donald Trump’s for what the organization called “racist” tweets about four U.S. congresswomen.

The ADL also lashed out at the president for defending his remarks by saying that the congresswomen hate Israel and are anti-Semitic.

“As Jews, we are all too familiar with this kind of divisive prejudice,” said Jonathan Greenblatt, the CEO and National Director of the ADL. “While ADL has publicly disagreed with these congresswomen on some issues, the president is echoing the racist talking points of white nationalists and cynically using the Jewish people and the State of Israel as a shield to double down on his remarks.”

Greenblatt stressed that “Politicizing the widespread, bipartisan support for Israel and throwing around accusations of anti-Semitism is damaging to the security of Israel and the Jewish community.”

Instead, Greenblatt insisted, the president “should lead by example, stop politicizing these issues and stop smearing members of Congress.”
