Joint Chiefs Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr., poised to be former President Donald Trump's top military adviser if Trump is reelected, said it would "be great" if the former commander in chief could end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours, referring to Trump's campaign promise to swiftly end the conflict.

Brown, speaking at the Aspen Security Forum on Friday, also addressed the risks of the United States and allies ending support for Kyiv, according to Politico.

"We have credibility that's at stake … it's not just the United States, but NATO, the West, if we just back away. And that opens the door for [Chinese leader] Xi Jinping and others that want to do unprovoked aggression," he said.

Brown, who serves as a top military adviser to President Joe Biden, said ending the conflict would lead to "more global security."

Brown further warned that if the United States and Europe suddenly stop supporting Ukraine, "[Russian President Vladimir] Putin would win."

"It's important that we continue to provide support to Ukraine so it doesn't go into a broader conflict as well. Hard leadership matters," he said.

Trump's vice presidential pick, J.D. Vance, has been openly critical of United States' support for Ukraine, criticizing aid provided under Biden.

"There is frankly no good reason that aid from the U.S. should be needed," Vance wrote in London's Financial Times newspaper earlier this year. "Europe is made up of many great nations with productive economies."
