Donald Trump says as president, he'd prosecute Hillary Clinton over her use of a private email server when she served as secretary of state.

In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity in Las Vegas on the eve of the Nevada GOP caucuses, the GOP front-runner says Clinton likely will skate free of the matter; the FBI is currently investigating.

"I think she's being protected," he said, adding: "I think she'll get away with it."

But, he said, "there's a long statute of limitations," noting that would allow him to prosecute Clinton for any crimes she committed from 2009 to 2013.

And if it's found she broke the law, she has to be prosecuted, he said, declaring, "I think you have to do that."

But Trump said he wouldn't just wait until January 2017 to begin his questioning of Clinton on the matter.

"If I'm the nominee, this is not gonna be a subject that's gonna die down very easily," he promised.

He also suggested Clinton, who won the party's Nevada's caucuses last Saturday, is running for her party's nomination to the White House to avoid being prosecuted should Republicans win the election in November.

"I think she's running a very important race, the most important race of her life, not just because of the president," Trump said.
