Donald Trump slipped back into his businessman role Monday, offering a woman a job during a press conference to promote his new hotel in Washington.
The woman,
reports The Hill, asked Trump whether his hotel — which will occupy the Old Post Office building in the nation's capital — will hire U.S. military veterans. Trump responded by inquiring about the woman's experience.
"Here's what I'm going to do, stand right over here," Trump said to the woman, according to The Hill.
Addressing the audience once more, Trump added, "If we can make a good deal in the salary, she's going to probably have a job. I have a gut instinct, we are allowed to have that."
Trump broke ground on the project to restore the Old Post Office building in July 2014. The hotel is slated to open this fall after the $200 million redevelopment is finished.
Trump, the leading Republican candidate for president, has made positive statements regarding women in the past. Last August, for example, he said he would
support female soldiers serving in combat roles. And women who have worked for Trump over the years said in November he was always
fair and encouraging to them on the job.
Trump did find himself in hot water, however, after making a comment about Fox News host Megan Kelly that some took as sexist last summer.
