Former Attorney General Ed Meese, who once bitterly attacked Donald Trump's White House bid, is now on the Republican candidate's transition team, according to reports.
Meese, 84, who served former President Ronald Reagan while he was California governor and president, is overseeing a transition group that is focusing on the Executive Office of the President, according to a Politico report citing two sources.
The entity includes the Office of Management and Budget.
Meese declined to comment Tuesday, according to the report, and the Trump campaign did not respond to a Politico request for comment.
The former attorney general was among many prominent conservatives who slammed Trump's candidacy in a special issue of National Review in January.
Trump's transition team is headed by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie — and it includes Heritage Foundation President Ed Feulner and Eric Ueland, GOP staff director for the Senate Budget Committee, according to the report.
Paul Winfree, another Heritage Foundation official, is also working on the team, a source told Politico.
Winfree, however, declined to comment.
In Meese's National Review essay, he said Trump's campaign style was to "vigorously attack your fellow candidates, disparaging them personally and seeking to raise yourself up by dragging them down.
"The political atmosphere is polluted by the vicious personal attacks that the Republican contenders have unleashed against one another," he continued in the essay, penned during the primaries. "Heading the attackers, in both vigor and vitriol, has been Donald Trump.
"His broadsides can almost be predicted by the other candidates’ standing in the polls.
"The result has been to divide and discourage potential Republican-party supporters."
Trump's slams were, Meese said, "a poor substitute for addressing the real issues that should be the basis for a positive campaign: restoring economic growth, strengthening national security, eliminating cronyism and corruption, and improving the lives of all Americans.
"At a time when the nation is suffering under one of the most divisive and incompetent presidents in history, our people need positive, unifying leadership, not negative, destructive political rhetoric."
