This year's elections are the costliest midterms ever, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.
According to Center, Federal Election Commission data show the total amount of money raised for the 2018 midterms has reached $3.96 billion — already surpassing the $3.84 billion spent during the whole of the 2014 midterms.
The total raised so far does not include the vast majority of third-quarter fundraising figures that had to be filed by Monday, the Center reported.
The Center reported fundraising records are already being broken, including Texas Democratic Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke's $38 million third-quarter haul.
Democrats have pulled in more money, $714 million, than their Republican rivals, who have raised $542 million, The Hill reported.
According to The Hill, several races have already set new spending records.
For example, the fight for a Senate seat in Florida between Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., and GOP Gov. Rick Scott is already the most expensive Senate contest in American history, The Hill reported. The two candidates have raised a combined $79 million.
Adding the $43 million spent by outside groups and the race has cost $113 million, The Hill reported.
Senate races in Missouri, Arizona, Indiana, and Wisconsin have already cost more than $50 million each, and Nevada is likely to break that mark this week, The Hill reported.
